From @jimavThis is a bug report for perl from jim.avera@gmail.com, The docs for Perl open (perldoc -f open) lists open FILEHANDLE,MODE,REFERENCE in the synopsis but makes no further mention of what it means to pass my $buffer; This should be documented, or whatever else the REFERENCE case is for.
