Some related previously proposed features that will not be part of the 1.0 milestone but can be considered down the road:

  • An automatically-generated list of all in-person events across chapters.
  • An automatically-generated calendar of all in-person events across chapters
  • Map of in-person meetups

Both the event list and event calendar will likely not be terribly useful unless they can be filtered by location, since most users will only care about one chapter.

The main benefit of consolidating listings across geographies is to reinforce the perception that there's broad community support internationally.

A map that highlights countries or cities that have chapters could potentially contribute to this perception of broad community engagement without being related to specific event listings.

I am working on a event listing + calendar solution that might port well for this purpose - and I am driven to have the entire static site run entirely client side and host all data on IPFS.

I would love some input into how to get the IPFS infrastructure in place to make this a functional app. Anyone you could recommend @terichadbourne ?

@nukemandan Your project looks really interesting! As a whole I think it contains more features than would be relevant for ProtoSchool, but there are likely elements there that we could explore down the road and I'll be curious to keep an eye on the project.

I don't have any experience with IPFS infrastructure myself. Perhaps @lgierth might be able to point you to some resources on that topic?

We now have an events page available where users can see upcoming workshops submitted by organizers, either virtual or in-person, with time zones attached. Before this system, we knew where our chapters were, but not all chapters actually hosted events, and specific events weren't listed centrally, so we don't have a full record of events hosted before the change. We could make a map of locations where events have happened in the past, but it might be sparse at the moment. My recommendation is to wait until activity picks up again and then consider as a low-priority option. Will change the title to reflect the map focus since the calendar element is set now.
