This bug is a duplicate of arduino/Arduino#7498 , but it's closed.
I just noticed that my pc was lagging, so I checked with htop, and I have:

Arduino IDE is closed, and the microcontroller is not attached to PC.
Arduino: 1.8.16
ArchLinux

Thanks for your report @All3xJ. Please try it with the latest 7.0 release of AVRDUDE to see if the bug has been resolved by the recent development work.

It may be available via your package manager. Otherwise, builds are available from the download links under the "Assets" section of this page:

https://github.com/arduino/avrdude-packing/releases/tag/7.0-arduino.3

Or build from source:
