Cross-post from sphinx-gallery/sphinx-gallery#1394, as they asked me to post here.

TL;DR: Plotly figures in sphinx-gallery are cropped, but resizing the window makes them display correctly again. It appears to be a question of "CSS tweaks".

This is likely due to plotly/plotly.js#7059 following @jeromedockes investigation. I would say this one can be closed.
