The package at https://pypi.python.org/pypi/rui is one I just uploaded two days ago and is already at 1830 downloads. Unless there is a script somewhere constantly downloading this package, I don't see how it could get this high? Is there something possibly wrong with the download counter?

I just noticed that, as well. I just uploaded my app at https://pypi.python.org/pypi/django-wattup/1.0

less than 30 minutes ago and it already has 35 downloads. Its just a simple contact form, and nothing too fancy. I was curious if this was a glitch, as well.

Yeah. I just uploaded another project (django-backtalk), and it shot up to 50 downloads super quick. Its almost like someone or a bot is auto-downloading them. Idunno. lol

This isn't broken, there are a number of mirroring clients which suck down everything that gets uploaded to PyPI.

Yes that is most likely what is happening
