What is the correct output for the WD SSD? I'm not asking what is wrong with the current returned value, I'm asking for the actual string which is returned on a correctly functioning system. |
Why not include the lspci output from both drives? In any case, from your forum post both drives have the same VID and SSVID. lspci can't tell them apart, which is why there's multiple model names in the string. This isn't a bug. |
This is what a legacy Bullseye (just installed on uSD) reports for the WD SN550. Can only give you that data as Bookworm reports incorrect on all platforms tested (1x CM4, 2x Pi5 (official HAT and Pimoroni Base).

Sure about that? I'm under the imperession you're referring to the wrong identifier. Find output of another WD drive (SN 520) from below which also shows same VID and SSVID. Expectation is to see this on all WD drives.

o.k., there is definitely a bug here. This output is from another DUT (CM4) which had the WD SN 550 mounted until this morning. It is now equipped with the Sandisk NVMe which is non-working on Pi5. As you can see 'lspci' reports a WD card, while the NVMe shows correct info - being a SanDisk product. to me it looks like 'lspci' looks at some cached data.

last test for the moment! Took. a fresh OS install with a Sandisk Ultra NVMe 3D SSD mounted on a CM4. Two different device names get reported:
swapping the drive to WD SN520 gives the expected result for both commands
and finally to the WD Blue SN550
Where is lspci referring to for showing it's information? Seems that data base is causing this issue. Note: all of the above was pulled from a CM4 DUT as the Sandisk Ultra 3D SSD is non-working on the Pi5! |
This is what I get from the Pi:
Based on https://admin.pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC/15b7 I would expect to see: WD SN520 - ID 5005 (PC SN520 x2 M.2 2242 NVMe SSD) --> as expected WD Blue SN550 - ID 5009 (SanDisk Ultra 3D / WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD) --> not as expected (and SanDisk Ultra 3D non-working on Pi5, working on CM4) |
Read the output of lspci again - the VID:PID pair for the first two drives is identical. If the "Sandisk ultra 3d" isn't working in an official M.2 HAT+ then open a new issue there with relevant logs. |

Describe the bug
DUT is an 8GB Pi5 with official M.2 HAT+. The HAT has received an upgrade to accept 2280 size drives. NVMe under test is a WD blue SN550 with 500GB.
'sudo lspci -vvv' reports the drive incorrectly - by reporting a drive which was previously connected (yesterday) but swapped to a WD SN550 today.
Steps to reproduce the behaviour
I'm currently testing compatibility of NVMe with the official M.2 HAT+ (as well as pimoroni base).
WD SN350 NVMe was connected to the DUT yesterday and swapped this morning to WD SN550.
