julia> v = [1,1e100,1,-1e100]*1000
4-element Float64 Array:
 1000.0    
    1.0e103
 1000.0    
   -1.0e103

julia> sum(v)
2000.0

julia> A = [v reverse(v) v2 reverse(v2)]
4x4 Float64 Array:
 1000.0        -1.0e103  1000.0         1.0e103
    1.0e103  1000.0        -1.0e103  1000.0    
 1000.0         1.0e103  1000.0        -1.0e103
   -1.0e103  1000.0         1.0e103  1000.0    

julia> sum(A)
8000.0

julia> sum(A,1)
1x4 Float64 Array:
 0.0  1000.0  0.0  1000.0

julia> [sum(A[:,1]) sum(A[:,2]) sum(A[:,3]) sum(A[:,4])]
1x4 Float64 Array:
 2000.0  2000.0  2000.0  2000.0

julia> sum(A,2)
4x1 Float64 Array:
    0.0
 1000.0
    0.0
 1000.0

julia> [sum(A[1,:]), sum(A[2,:]), sum(A[3,:]), sum(A[4,:])]
4-element Float64 Array:
 2000.0
 2000.0
 2000.0
 2000.0
