v0.2 xp32bit sp3 installation doesn't work properly

I have installed v0.2 win 32bit in win32 xp sp3 + 3 recommended programs:
7z, msysGit and TortoiseGit + set 7z into Path.
test-julia.bat returned "SUCCESS" and I can run julia.bat but packager doesn't work at all, when I'm trying to run Pkg.update() I get the following error:
"fatal: unable to connect to github.com:
github.com[0: 192.30.252.129]: errno=No such file or directory
ERROR: failed process: Process('git clone -q -b devel git://github.com/JuliaLang/METADATA.jl METADATA', ProcessExited(128)) [128]

Could you help me ? I need to install additional packages ...

It looks like something i wrong with your internett connection. Are you behind a very restrictive firewall, or using a proxy server?

I wonder why julia uses git:// url instead of https:// to clone the METADATA repository. I think that might solve the problem if there is a firewall blocking unknown protocolls.

I will try to install Julia at home ... If it's a cause the packager seems very problematic :-( ...
How I can install packages from home installation in another place where git is restricted ?

git:// seems to cause fewer problems for people whereas https:// tends to cause certificate issues for people. None of the possible protocol choices are actually ideal, unfortunately. You can use something like this trick in the README to change the protocol, probably something along the lines of running

git config --global url."https://".insteadOf "git://"
