This is a bug report for perl from cas@taz.net.au,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.40 running under perl 5.26.1.

"perldoc -v" is only useful if you already know the name of the perl variable
that controls the thing you want to control.

e.g.

Both "perldoc -v '$/'" and "perldoc -v '$RS'" work and provide lots
of information about the input record separator. It even contains
the string "input record separator" as well as the alternative name
"$INPUT_RECORD_SEPARATOR".

"perldoc -i -v 'input.*record'" says only:

'input.*record' does not look like a Perl variable

The ability to search would be useful. There are lots of perlvars that I can
vaguely remember what they do but can never remember what they're called.

thanks,

craig

From @jkeenan

This feature would have to be implemented in Pod::Perldoc. That's maintained upstream on CPAN, so I have opened a ticket on rt.cpan.org and am closing this one.

Thank you very much.
