croak eats error string

The new changes in _58 with regards to Carp do not work. Carp​::croak
eats the error string, i.e.​:

Carp​::croak ("message") results in (say)​: " at ./xcftopnm line 56".

The cuplrit seems to be "shortmess" that seems to ignore its
argument. Reverting to the _57 Carp.pm solved it.
