It would be very awesome if we could install OpenSSH in Windows by just using winget install openssh.

In order to accomplish that, probably a MSI or MSIX (or EXE) installer needs to be provided. I suspect the installer would need to take care of adding the installation path to the PATH environment variable as well.

This would make installing or "upgrading" the OpenSSH version that comes with Windows much easier and without having to upgrade Windows itself, especially since it contains a major bug (at least from my perspective) which is: microsoft/terminal#8179

@felipecrs - Thanks for your feedback. The next win32-openssh release (due for Feb) will have MSI package. We will explore the option of publishing to WinGet after that.

Will this new release drop the "beta" tag? When will it be production ready and supported?

@Branden-DeVries - All our Github releases will have "beta" tag. We don't have any plans to remove it. This is mainly because we don't have servicing story for the Github releases. If you are looking to use this in production environment then we advice to use the windows inbox optional feature / azure VM extension (which supports azure VMs from win7+)

In my case I was already on the inbox built-in OpenSSH but wanted to update for the security in our environment so I just updated all of the OpenSSH exe files and libcrypto.dll for LibreSSL.

This should bring you up to OpenSSH v8.6, LibreSSL v3.4.2

It would be great to have winget packages
Microsoft.OpenSSH

Microsoft.OpenSSH.Preview

For the latest stable and beta.

OpenSSH 8.9.1.0 is now available through WinGet. See the following PR - microsoft/winget-pkgs#61320

As @felipecrs mentioned, it can be installed via:
winget install openssh

To search for it first and see the available version(s), the following command can be used:
winget search openssh
