As next improvements for a v2 this is what i have seen:

• There is some common code now in both c22 and c45 calls, so calling to a common internal function may be nice
• add the same for h5
• also possible to add the same for f7 (but cannot test it here, so would not)

The decision was made not to include Clause 45 support in the current products, including the H7 series, for several reasons. One key reason is that none of the ST STM32 development kits are equipped with a Clause 45-capable PHY.
However, Clause 45 support will be considered for future development, so please allow me to close this issue.

To whom it may concern,

Would it be possible to reconsider the decision made for this PR? I'm using Zephyr and trying to integrate the stm32h7 with a TJA1103 PHY. The Zephyr driver for the TJA1103 uses clause 45 reads and writes which the stm32h7 supports. But I'm missing the functionality implemented here to be able to actually use it. It seems rather limiting to not include support for it as more and more new PHY chips will be using this standard.

The future is already here for at least some of your customers.
If STM32 MCUs are intended for broader use beyond ST's own kits, it might be worthwhile to take customer needs more seriously. Listening to our feedback and wishes could really strengthen your ecosystem.

Hi,
i received these days some mails from ST forum of guys needing this.

So let me know eventually if this PR can be re-opened. I am available to fix any detail in case.
I am supposing in ST there is no way to test it, this has been tested here, connecting mdio lines to a different phy than nucelo one.

Anyway, since i don't need any medal, feel free to use my code here to add the feature, that's nothing special.
