I spent a while understanding these functions, so I thought I might as well fill in the documentation. I'm a bit unsure for move(), so do check it's correct.
As a side note, I find the convention of returning whether a boolean indicating whether a function failed to be very counter-intuitive, even if it does match the convention of returning 0 if a program succeeded.
