Apologies for taking so long to merge this, I had been a bit preoccupied with PhD stuff.
This PR is a copy of #201 the reason is that the parent of the fork got mixed up with another GitHub repo, when this repo went private. In addition, the branch has been rebased onto master. No syntax highlighting code has been modified since PR #201.
Fixes #181 .
I added some sample code to demonstrate that it works (via visual inspection).
In the future it would be great, if we figure out a way to unittest our syntax highlighting, then the sample code could be used as test cases. The CHANGELOG has also been updated.
