11.2 release is faulty

It fails to set version correctly so it installs library files to 2025.07.01 format directly instead of PACKAGE_VERSION one.

It happens every time you try to build, PACKAGE_VERSION is not set causing PACKAGE_VERSION to be generated.

I see the same - I build on Centos 9s using mock and original .spec file from "official" EPEL gluster release.
I get:

BUILDROOT/glusterfs-11.2-8.el9.x86_64/usr/lib64/glusterfs/2025.07.01/xlator
....

Were those steps worked for you on 11.1 release?

I place downloaded - url shown above - tar, into SOURCE, where mock/rpmbuild expects it, I amend .spec file accordingly, only "source" bits, and this:

-> $ mock -r centos-stream+epel-9-x86_64 --rootdir=/devs/var/mock --resultdir=/00-REPOs/dnf.repo/repo/"{{dist}}"/"{{target_arch}}"/packages --spec ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/glusterfs-mine.spec --sources ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES --no-clean --no-cleanup-after

fails. Where the same - re/build of EPEL's 11.1 tar sources - succeeds.

Create a file called VERSION which contains v11.2-0

though ideally, this would be created when the GitHub release is created.

Yes - VERSION file is missing, while present in previous releases - adding it, "fixes" this compile/build issue.
