Suggestion to fix #439.

Also update list of supported versions, EOL 3.4 was dropped in #421 (and pypa/pip@2c1010e dropped support for 3.4 in pip, shipped in 19.2).

I think I was really thinking of a bit more text about this (what exactly I don't know!), but I guess literally copy/pasting what I said in the issue is better than nothing!
