What could work here is to have first this control to pick the season of interest. Depending what Tufa wants, it could be a fixed list like this than then might have to go into the configuration file as different countries may have different seasons of interest. Or have a control for the month the season starts and another for the month the season ends.
Then remove the target_year control and instead make a menu dependent on the season menu that lists all the possible season-years once the season is picked. So e.g. if season is DJF, then that menu will be Dec 1961 - Feb 1962 ... Dec 2017 - Feb 2018. Also this way you need not hard-code the min/max of target-year control as it will be inferred by what the data has, and by the season choice.
Then the season menu is used by the time series while the season-year menu is used by the map.
