Post-release code cleanup of some metadata inheritance code #4693
Description
Observed behavior
As discussed in the PR for MVP implementation of the metadata inheritance modal, some of the code is quite long, and the readability could be improved.
Dev-facing consequences
It could be harder to maintain this code or spot bugs. May be trickier for others to contribute in this area with enhancements or bug fixes.
Context
