Review support for discovering and running of unit tests

Recently we identified the fact that the extension fails to discover and run unit tests found in the PTVSD project.

At least one bug was identified in the process.
We might want to review this feature against some popular python repos and identify areas that need to be improved.

I am not using PTVSD in my project but discovering and running unit tests was working until I upgrade Code & Python extension last 3 days. I am not sure which one caused the problem.
I am using Python 3.6 and unittest package.
Is there anything I can check and share ?
