library.json is a library manifest file which can be used by the different tools/managers to organise embedded libraries. How does this look from CLI:

$ platformio lib search "ethernet"
# Found ... libraries:
#
# [ ID ] Name Compatibility "Authors": Description
# -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ 91 ] UIPEthernet arduino, atmelavr "Norbert Truchsess, Pascal Stang, Adam Dunkels, Jordan Terrell, Adam Nielsen": ENC28J60 shields and breakout boards: full support for persistent (streaming) TCP-connections and UDP (Client and Server each), ARP, ICMP, DHCP and DNS

$ platformio lib install 91
# Installing [ 91 ]  library:
# Downloading  [####################################]  100%
# Unpacking  [####################################]  100%
# The library [ 91 ] ‘UIPEthernet' has been successfully installed!

$ platformio lib show 91
