We would like to inform you that the student/teacher verification process has been relocated to a new section within your user settings, right next to your billing and plans information.

By moving the verification process to your settings page it makes it easier to access, manage, and track everything related to your account in one place.

What’s new in this update:

• Camera countdown: A short delay has been added before capturing your live photo, allowing you time to prepare.

• Enhanced camera support: Improved performance across various devices.

• 2FA validation guidance: You will now receive a 2FA prompt to proceed verification.

• Better status updates – Stay informed with improved application tracking.

• Updated documentation: Our help resources have been expanded and improved for greater clarity and ease of use.

Your application has been received and is currently under review. You’ll see updates here as it moves through each stage of the verification process.

If your application is rejected, you’ll now see clear reasons and tips for what to fix before trying again.

Important

Your academic benefits will be activated within 72 hours after successful verification. 🕒
Once activated, you’ll have access to:

• Copilot Pro: Redeem your coupon via this link.
• Student Developer Pack Benefits: Explore the offers available here.
• Faculty Upgrades: Upgrade your organizations to GitHub Teams through your GitHub Education dashboard.

No action required for verified users

If you have already completed verification, no further action is required.
However, should you need to re-verify at any point, you can now do so by navigating to the new verification section within your profile.

@kfaizi I found a way to bypass this. You can enable the button by doing the following:

1. Open the Developer Tools in your browser (usually F12 or right-click > Inspect).
2. Use the element selector tool (the icon that lets you select elements on the page by clicking them — shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + C in Edge).
3. Click on the button the "Start an application" button to highlight its HTML in the Elements panel.
4. Remove the disabled="disabled" attribute from the button element.

You should now be able to click the button.

Hi! I got the same question like you, I reapplied today. It shows I have been verified already. They will give me benefits soon. I guess you can try to reapply to see your status as well.

Hey, I got access to the github education benefits yesterday and I am already using it. I applied April 12 and got access yesterday April 15 (PH Time) exactly 72 hours. I did not need to reapply for the benefits so you should just wait.

Hi! I'm experiencing exactly the same issue as you. My application was approved a few days ago, but when I try to open the "Education Benefits" details, it gets stuck loading and never shows the confirmation or the Copilot Pro redemption link.

Were you able to fix it? Was it just a temporary glitch, or did you have to contact support or do something specific to solve it?

Hey! My governmentally issued student ID is 2-sided. On the front it has my name, date of birth and ID number and on the backside it shows the date of validity and the name of my school (among other info). In the current state of the system, it's not possible to upload multiple sides nor to upload pictures from my gallery. I've tried taking a picture of the backside only, but photos taken with both my front camera and back camera turned out to be blurry. I've even tried with my webcam but it produced an even worse image. After many failed attempts, I've submitted a barely readable photo and it got rejected almost instantly. Could you make uploading documents permitted or at least have the option to verify students through other channels? It would be urgent for my JetBrains subscription.

Thank you for your reply! I tried taking a picture of 2 of my documents, one being my student identity card and the other being an official dated exam notifier with my school's stamp. I took one photo with my front and one with my back camera, but no matter what, they turned out to be unreadably blurry. I cleared the cameras beforehand and they work perfectly fine in other apps.

What could you recommend?

Yeah, you will definitely need to show your personal details - key to the application. I would suggest having a look at I need to translate my evidence. What can I do? which suggests that you show one side of your Student ID along side your School Details (you can perhaps write it down in bigger characters for easier visibility).

I've tried again. I'm honestly not sure if you are aware, but GitHub's system is completely flawed. The image sent to the server is 316x316. So pixelated, that there is not a single letter that is recognizable from the picture. I do not have ANY document that could fit into such a small image while their content stays readable and could verify my identity. Not to even mention multiple documents. How am I supposed to fit multiple into a single photo with translation included? I've attached half of the original photo that is sent in a request to the server after pressing the upload button, please see for yourself.

Please come up with a reasonable solution as if the situation stays the same, I won't be able to verify myself and will loose access to tools that are more than crucial for my studies!
