There is no need to maintain 2 READMEs, and since PyPI is more ReST, I reformat README.md to README.rst (with pandoc) and add syntax highlighting on code snippets.

You could use both to be compliant PyPi and github with pandadoc.
Like this:
encode/django-rest-framework#3928
