Compile errors on all platforms

I'm a big fan, and been waiting for this project eagerly.
While giving it a spin I faced following issues.

Windows 10 Enterprise
cargo 1.43.0-nightly (bda50510d 2020-03-02)

Oh, I’ve got some bad news for ya....

No Windows support right now.

I’d like to circle back here...

pgx builds 3 versions of Postgres, from source, as part of its build process. And it’s from that that pgx is able to generate the proper bindings to Postgres per version.

That’s hard to do on Windows.

We’re looking at a way to not need to do this. Perhaps once we get that sorted, getting support for Windows will be a lot easier.

It’s not that we don’t want to support Windows as much as it’s just not easy for us right now.

woah, that's really weird. can't say I've seen this one before...

First question, do you have clang installed? These compile errors are coming from one of the bindgen crate dependencies.

I guess I haven't tried building this on a system without clang. #hmm

What about doing a cargo clean, then cargo pgx install?

No this is Ubuntu( 18.01 LTS ) on a VirtualBox, so shouldn't be restricted by anything.

I've just run into approximately the same issue with clang symbols appearing out of whack - out of curiosity what's the clang-sys version in your Cargo.lock?

In my (entirely-unrelated-to-pgx) build it appears to be related to picking clang-sys 0.28.2 instead of clang-sys 0.28.1. From your clang 0.23.0 dependency I would suspect if you specifically named clang-sys 0.29.3 (rather than 0.29.4 I bet you have?) the build in your VM will probably be better-behaved.

For reference: I stumbled across this issue from trying to google one of the errors about missing clang symbols, myself :)

edit: CXCursorAndRangeVisitor's visit became Option in clang-sys 0.29 (from non-optional in 0.28 as this error implies), so that's probably a case of weird dependencies too

edit 2: clang-sys 0.28.2 also makes visit an Optional field: https://docs.rs/clang-sys/0.28.2/clang_sys/struct.CXCursorAndRangeVisitor.html, so.. that version should probably be yanked on account of a semver-incompatible breakage :D in the mean time, I think you might be able to get away with explicitly naming clang-sys = "0.28.1" in your Cargo.toml to get it to pick the older non-breaking crate.
