before we merge, let's try to get all of the pre-commit checks passing locally. We'll certainly need some numpydoc config, e.g. https://github.com/data-apis/array-api-extra/blob/66e9282df165df219797f65f1cc061665fe7e95f/pyproject.toml#L340-L346
