Patch to make it possible to compile the mainline spi-bcm2835.c spi driver on the raspbian kernel, which still does not use device-tree as well as the 2708 Architecture name.

There are some advantages to this code:

  • it uses the transfer one message interface and the corresponding "central" queuing mechanism
  • the code is much cleaner.

What is still missing:

  • the driver currently does not set the alternate functions for the PINs, so one has to load/unload spi-bcm2708 first to set them up
  • there is no option to enable real time priorities to the work-queue
  • the CS-Polarity bug has not been fixed either...

The last 2 are separate pull requests, so that they can get merged into the mainline as well...

I would also recommend enabling this driver as a module in the default compiles.

Experiments show that it doesn't really take that long to sync, so we
can reduce the poll interval slightly. Might improve performance a bit.
The custom clock handling code is redundant and buggy. The MMC/SDHCI
subsystem does a better job than it, so remove it for good.
Some additional quirks are needed for correct operation.
There's no SDHCI capabilities register documented, and it always reads
zero, so add SDHCI_QUIRK_MISSING_CAPS. Apparently
SDHCI_QUIRK_NO_HISPD_BIT is needed for many cards to work correctly in
high-speed mode, so add it as well.
Add a parameter to disable high-speed mode for the few cards that
still might have problems. High-speed mode is enabled by default.
80 MHz clock isnt't suited well to be dividable to get SD clocks of 25
MHz (default mode) or 50 MHz (high speed mode). 50 MHz are perfect to
drive the SD interface at ideal frequencies.
Commit d64b84c by accident reduced the maximum overall DMA sync
timeout. The maximum overall timeout was reduced from 100ms to 30ms,
which isn't enough for many cards. Increase it to 150ms, just to be
extra safe. According to commit 872a8ff in the MMC subsystem, some
cards require crazy long timeouts (3s), but as we're busy-waiting,
and shouldn't delay for such a long time, let's hope 150ms will be
enough for most cards.
…we can reliably recover from, so down_interruptable is not a safe call.
The additional FIFO might speed up transfers in some cases.
There are issues with both single block reads (missed completion)
and writes (data loss in some cases!). Just don't do single block
transfers anymore, and treat them like multiblock transfers. This
adds a quirk for this and uses it.
…. Should give about 10% more ARM performance.

Failing to set up the FIQ correctly would result in
"IRQ 32: nobody cared" errors in dmesg.
Fix several issues resulting in crashes or inconsistent state
if a Model A root port was disconnected.

- Clean up queue heads properly in kill_urbs_in_qh_list by
  removing the empty QHs from the schedule lists
- Set the halt status properly to prevent IRQ handlers from
  using freed memory
- Add fiq_split related cleanup for saved registers
- Make microframe scheduling reclaim host channels if
  active during a disconnect
- Abort URBs with -ESHUTDOWN status response, informing
  device drivers so they respond in a more correct fashion
  and don't try to resubmit URBs
- Prevent IRQ handlers from attempting to handle channel
  interrupts if the associated URB was dequeued (and the
  driver state was cleared)
A dwc_otg_urb would get leaked if the HCD enqueue function
failed for any reason. Free the URB at the appropriate points.

This is because the vectors page is now write-protected, and to change
code in there we must write to its original alias.  Make that change,
and adjust the cache flushing such that the code will become visible
to the instruction stream on VIVT CPUs.

In the error paths of parse_open, only unlock the service if it is not
NULL. In the fail path, NULL the service after it is unlocked to
prevent a double unlock.
Commit 2ba85e7 (ARM: Fix FIQ code on VIVT CPUs) causes the following build warning:

arch/arm/kernel/fiq.c:92:3: warning: passing argument 1 of 'cpu_cache.coherent_kern_range' makes integer from pointer without a cast [enabled by default]

Cast it as '(unsigned long)base' to avoid the warning.

Certain low-speed devices take a very long time to complete a
data or status stage of a control transaction, producing NAK
responses until they complete internal processing - the USB2.0
spec limit is up to 500mS. This causes the same type of interrupt
storm as seen with USB-serial dongles prior to c8edb23.

In certain circumstances, usually while booting, this interrupt
storm could cause SD card timeouts.
Issuing low-speed packets when the root port is in full-speed mode
causes the root port to stop responding. Explicitly fail when
enqueuing URBs to a LS endpoint on a FS bus.
to get compiled also for a raspbian kernel.

There are some advantages to this code - primarily that it uses the transfer one message interface.
also the code is much cleaner.

I don't use spi, so I'll need to get some input from other spi users.
Is the plan to ship both spi drivers and allow the user to choose which one to enable? (rather than removing the older driver)

I assume this specific code in bcm2835_spi_init_pinmode
comes from Chris Boot.

This portion should get improved to avoid the hack that is there currently

yes - that is the idea - this way we do not have any compatibility issues.
Anyone who wants to use the newer/faster driver may decide to use it - the default is still there.

Also I will implement the fix for the ChipSelect Polarity bug only in this driver...

Still I would recommend moving to the upstream SPI driver at some point, as it is upstream and the way forward...
But then the patches require "correct" sign-offs to get them applied upstream - or so I have been told...

The alternate pin config is currently "hacked" in like it is in the spi-bcm2708.c driver.
Obviously this needs to get changed, but at least there is no need for load/unload of the bcm2708 driver...

Note that there seems to be an issue with the "stock" spi-bcm2708 driver that results in a kernel-panic (and drop into kernel debugger) as soon as a SPI-message gets delivered via an spi_async directly from a interrupt-handler...

The patched spi-bcm-2835.c driver does NOT show this effect!

I hope I find time to rebase this patch soon, so that you can include it more easily...

Because of both sides doing L2CAP disconnection at the same time, it
was possible to receive L2CAP Disconnection Response with CID that was
already freed. That caused problems if CID was already reused and L2CAP
Connection Request with same CID was sent out. Before this patch kernel
deleted channel context regardless of the state of the channel.

Example where leftover Disconnection Response (frame raspberrypi#402) causes local
device to delete L2CAP channel which was not yet connected. This in
turn confuses remote device's stack because same CID is re-used without
properly disconnecting.

Fix is to check that channel is in state BT_DISCONN before deleting the
channel.

This bug was found while fuzzing Bluez's OBEX implementation using
Synopsys Defensics.

Fix is to check that channel is in state BT_DISCONN before deleting the
channel.

This bug was found while fuzzing Bluez's OBEX implementation using
Synopsys Defensics.

Because of both sides doing L2CAP disconnection at the same time, it
was possible to receive L2CAP Disconnection Response with CID that was
already freed. That caused problems if CID was already reused and L2CAP
Connection Request with same CID was sent out. Before this patch kernel
deleted channel context regardless of the state of the channel.

Example where leftover Disconnection Response (frame #402) causes local
device to delete L2CAP channel which was not yet connected. This in
turn confuses remote device's stack because same CID is re-used without
properly disconnecting.
